The novel tells the story of Carol Milford, a young and progressive librarian, who struggles to adapt to town life. Carol MinnesotaSt. While living in St. Paul, she falls in love with Will Kennicott and gets married. When Will dreams of returning to his childhood town, the couple moves to Gopher Prairie. Overflowing with optimism and determination, Carol forgot to take into account the mentality of the townspeople while trying to modernize this place and make the townspeople adopt her ideals.Sinclair Lewis, who was also born in Sauk Center, Minnesota, created Gopher Prairire by taking advantage of his own experiences. Main Street, which satirizes town life and the petty-bourgeois world of its inhabitants, and on the other hand tells about Carol's struggle not to be subject to those whose horizons cannot go beyond Main Street, has become perhaps Sinclair Lewis's most famous novel, has become one of the important classics of American Literature, and has become one of the author's important classics in 1930’.
