Monsters Editorial Review
**** "Fear the Drowning Deep" by Sarah Glenn Marsh transcends the boundaries of a simple fantasy novel, weaving together elements of mythology, mystery, and coming-of-age within the hauntingly beautiful setting of the Isle of Man. The narrative follows Bridey, a young girl gripped by her past trauma of losing her grandfather to the sea. When a drowned woman’s body washes ashore and strange occurrences begin plaguing her coastal hometown, Bridey's life becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue marked by town gossip, superstition, and the arrival of an enigmatic young man named Fynn. Readers are particularly drawn to the rich characterization and layered plot, with Bridey's quest for truth serving as the emotional anchor of the story. The close-knit yet isolating community and the stigma surrounding the local recluse, dubbed a witch, expose the nuances of human nature and fear of the unknown. The atmosphere undergoes a compelling transformation, reflecting a darker tone as Bridey's journey progresses, driving home themes of love, loyalty, and courage against formidable odds. While some felt that the narrative could delve deeper into darker themes, it remains accessible and engaging, especially for readers who may shy away from conventional horror. The lyrical Prose enhances the enchanting yet eerie quality of the story, encouraging audiences to invest in both Bridey’s personal struggles and her community’s unfolding mysteries. The conclusion leaves room for interpretation, embodying both resolution and the intrigue of what lies ahead. Overall, "Fear the Drowning Deep" is a poignant, atmospheric novel ideal for readers seeking a balance between fantasy and reality, rich in both suspense and emotional depth. **
