It can recognize typed writing and has a text-to-speech feature that could help a small child learn to read books devoted to their age group. However, it has difficulties with handwriting recognition and needs perfect flat pages to work correctly. The software is limited to 8 characters for naming files, and tech support is lacking. The device is overpriced for certain uses, but it can come in handy for bedside reading.
